Services

In my approach with clients, I provide a warm, compassionate place for those seeking validation, insight, understanding and change. I balance using directive strategies and skills from a wide range of evidence based practices, with a focus on the critical importance of a trusting therapeutic relationship. I work collaboratively with you on establishing goals for yourself or your loved one, and then offer you the support, guidance, tools, and insight to help you find relief and direction.

Child and Adolescent Therapy

I offer individual therapy for children and adolescents who are experiencing stress, worries, social anxieties, OCD, inattention/distractibility, low mood, or have "big emotions" and could benefit from more effective coping strategies. I provide a trusting, supportive, caring environment in which kids and teenagers can feel comfortable sharing and exploring what brings them to therapy.

In my work with children, I use evidence-based approaches, including CBT, DBT, and ACT, in a way that is flexible and tailored to each client.  Using these approaches, I teach kids skills around emotion regulation, distress tolerance, cognitive restructuring, defusion, and mindfulness. Client goals can include increasing awareness of their emotions, getting unstuck from unhelpful thoughts, participating in bravery practice around fears or worries, and engaging more with meaningful people and activities. Clients learn how to understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings and behaviors, to communicate their needs more effectively, and how to better understand and manage their emotions and make values-based, wise minded decisions.

Parent Coaching

I enjoy working with caregivers as they navigate the joys and challenges of parenting, balancing parents’ responsibilities and their own well-being. With my work with parents, I utilize a variety of approaches, including Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE).  I teach parents skills and strategies to respond to their children's challenging behaviors and big emotions. Goals include helping parents set and hold expectations, skills for emotion regulation, more effective communication, while prioritizing and enhancing their relationship with their children. An important part of parent coaching is helping parents recognize ways their own emotions are involved in their response and act in ways that align with their parenting values.

Caregiver coaching is recommended either in conjunction with individual therapy for the child, or often, as a stand alone treatment. Caregiver coaching is a powerful tool that can create positive change in a family system even when the child is not directly involved in the sessions. This can be especially helpful for children who are young or resistant to therapy. It is an empowering experience for parents to be their child's coach, and it can have a substantial and lasting impact on their child's mental health and the family's functioning. Parents often gain concrete skills and knowledge, feel more confident in how they respond to their child, experience greater awareness around their emotions and the patterns they get stuck in, and how their reactions are aligned or not with their values and goals as parents.

Maternal Mental Health Therapy

I work with mothers to address concerns including anxiety, feeling overwhelmed, feeling lost or searching for purpose, relationship stress, inattention and distractibility, or navigating life's adjustments and transitions. I recognize the unique challenges associated with family life and strive to provide a non-judgmental space for individuals seeking support related to pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum health, and parenting throughout their child's life and other times of transitions. I support clients embarking on their journey to parent hood and helps them through the potential joys and challenges along the way.

Maternal mental health impacts the well-being of both the mother and the child, as well as the partner, and can affect physical and emotional development, family dynamics, and quality of life. I work with mothers to prioritize their own maternal mental health, whether it is during family planning, bringing baby home, or at any point during parenting. Through this work, I help support mothers in achieving healthy pregnancies, positive postpartum experiences, and strong parent-child relationships.

Maternal mental health doesn't just refer to the time immediately following the addition of a child to the family. I specialize in helping mothers navigate other challenging times in their lives, including going back to work after time off, making the decision to stay home with their child, or figuring out what they want to do after years of caring for their family. Experiences that bring women to therapy may include feelings of overwhelm from caregiving, experiencing career transitions, seeking new job opportunities, caring for aging parents, marital changes, children leaving the home, or coping with aging.  Goals of therapy often include helping women rediscover their sense of self and values in different areas and phases of their lives, redefining their identity and purpose as they navigate shifts in their social or family life, and building on emotional resilience and self-reflection. I enjoy helping women navigate these changes, find balance between being a parent and an individual, and connect to their values to establish goals and make informed decisions around their professional and personal lives.

Couples Therapy

I strive to help couples create and maintain a more fulfilling relationship for both partners. This work is done through developing a deeper understanding of each other, increasing empathy and communication, and learning skills to navigate life's challenges together. In my work with couples, I use Gottman Therapy and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) techniques. Common goals include to improve communication, build trust, manage conflict, create shared meaning and strengthen friendship.

EFT is focused on the attachment between couples. Through EFT, clients better understand their own and their partners emotions and how their interactions affect one another to create a more secure bond. Strategies include increasing emotional awareness and regulation skills, restructuring negative interaction patterns, and promoting emotional responsiveness and vulnerability between partners.

Gottman therapy helps partners address conflict management by replacing negative interaction patterns with positive ones, learning to repair after conflict, and reaching compromise. Other goals include finding a shared meaning, creating rituals that strengthen the relationship, and turning towards one another to increase affection and appreciation for eachother.

Executive Function Coaching

Executive function coaching refers to support given to individuals to develop and improve skills such as self-regulation, planning, organization, time management, task initiation and prioritization, and focus/attention. My approach is unique in that I bring a clinical lens to the work, and incorporate the effect that mental health and emotions have on executive functioning. I help clients recognize and manage emotions that can be a barrier to completing work or to using executive functioning skills effectively.  Addressing these emotional barriers, such as perfectionism, anxiety, self-esteem, and dsyregulation, while learning EF skills, can help clients complete tasks and achieve their goals.
